Controller
REPORTS TO: President
Heartwood is a seeking an adventurous, high-energy, and strategically-minded financial wizard. We are an extremely fast-growing, agile team, constantly operating outside our comfort zone, and we need a detail-oriented, growth-obsessed professional who wants to come along for the ride.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Overall management of the company’s finance and accounting departments
- Implement scalable processes and systems for the company’s finance and accounting department, including construction operations, development operations, and fund accounting
- Mentor and develop finance and accounting team as the company grows
- Provide strategic financial planning and forecasting for the company, its construction operations, and development projects
- Oversee and execute treasury, accounts receivable, and accounts payable
- Maintain up to date company- and project-level financial statements
- Ensure adequate company cash flow and liaise with development managers to produce draw requests
- Advise executive leadership in determining tax efficient capital structures, appropriate debt levels, and optimal cash balances
- Oversee audit, tax preparation and risk management activities
REQUIREMENTS
- BBA in accounting and/or finance
- MS or MBA preferred but not required
- CPA preferred but not required
- 7+ years’ experience in corporate finance and accounting
- Relevant experience working in real estate development, construction, or private equity
- Experience managing and growing a team and a department from scratch
- Growth mindset with enthusiasm for working on a small, nimble, and quickly evolving team
